Last June 5 marked Diwa Siargao’s 6th anniversary— when we chose to spend the day quietly and meaningfully instead of throwing our usual big celebration. Last year, we opened our doors for a free wellness day for the island community. This year, we turned inward and gifted ourselves a wellness day of our own.
A day to explore, reconnect, and celebrate not just the business, but the people who keep it alive.
Starting the day off full of energy and excitement, our team had met up at Diwa. Even though most of our staff are locals, it was heartwarming to see the sense of wonder in their faces as we set off on a tour of the island. It was at eight in the morning when the van picked us up and the land tour officially began.
Our first stop was the Coconut View Deck, famous for its sweeping view of Siargao’s iconic coconut groves. Our staff were so excited to take photos and even had to experience the iconic human drone.
Next, we headed to the Maasin River. There, a small boat and a local paddler took us through a quiet loop in the river, surrounded by lush, enchanted trees. We felt like it was straight out of a fairy movie – a step into a magical world!
Afterwards, we had a pre-lunch at the Local Hub, a traditional Filipino restaurant known for celebrating culture through food and workshops. We were welcomed like family, tasted organic, home-cooked snacks, and experienced the warmth of Filipino hospitality.
Then came the most anticipated part of the day: our boodle fight.
Despite the sudden downpour, we cozied up in a kubo near Pacifico Beach, a famous surfing spot as well, where the team had a quick swim in before lunch. When the food arrived—grilled porkchops, fish, island-style ceviche, pancit, fruits, and of course, rice—it was a feast worth waiting for.
With our bellies full and hearts even fuller, we returned to Diwa to rest. It was a simple celebration, but one that reminded us of why we do what we do: for the people, the place, and the sense of home we’ve built together.
Six years in, we chose to keep our team small—yet tighter than ever. And that closeness, that shared spirit, is what truly makes Diwa special.
